SMEs Embrace Electronic Invoicing
Dublin, Ireland, 18th February 2010
The move is on. SMEs are now reaping the benefits of e–invoicing that were once exclusively reserved for large corporations.
For the past twenty years, large organisations have been automating their invoicing process and enjoying the costs savings and efficiencies associated with e–Invoicing. Now, SMEs are gaining access to these savings and efficiencies as the traditional obstacles to invoice automation, such as technology investment and economies of scale, have been removed. This has all been made possible with the advent of secure, Internet–based invoicing. In fact, the European Commission estimates that within five to eight years at the latest structured e–Invoicing will become the predominant invoicing method throughout Europe.1
Now, SME can enjoy the many benefits associated with Electronic Invoicing which had traditionally been reserved for larger corporations, such as customer retention, quality improvement, improved processes and reduced costs.
“We are seeing a dramatic surge in the demand for Electronic Invoicing from the SME sector and this trend is set to continue,” says Gregory Duffy, CEO of OnePosting, a leading provider of integrated online invoicing solutions. “OnePosting’s e–Invoicing Service is web–based, so it is easily scalable and can be used by companies of all sizes, whether they send out 100 invoices or 1 million invoices a month. Since there is no technology investment, our customers can achieve cost savings from day one.”
Many SMEs throughout Ireland are already enjoying the benefits of e–invoicing as their invoice processing and postage costs are dramatically reduced2. Even greater gains are made through inbound cost savings, especially through reduced debtor days – Electronic invoices can be turned around in minutes rather than days and administrative errors such as mislaid invoices are removed, which can be costly to suppliers. Finally, there is a real opportunity for businesses to improve their customer service, since administrative staff can focus on their customers instead of chasing old or missing invoices: the data they need is available at the touch of a button and can be accessed by both themselves and their customers.
“A major competitive advantage to SMEs using e–invoicing is that they immediately have access to a larger market of potential customers and suppliers, especially large organisations, who prefer working with e–capable trading partners,” continues Gregory. “For SMEs that aren’t ready for full invoice automation, we manage the migration of customers from post to online and operate a postal system for those that prefer to receive invoices by more traditional methods.”
