€60 Per Invoice Cost

According to estimates provided by the government a paper invoice costs €60 per invoice. The figures emerged on the 17th of November in response to a Parliamentary Question submitted by Independent TD Denis Naughten. In answering the questions, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform (Mr Howlin) said “According to European studies carried out, Ireland as a whole could save between €240 - €400 million following the roll out of e-invoicing”. He went on to state that “The National Multi-Stakeholder Forum on e-Invoicing was established by the National Procurement Service (NPS) on 30 May 2011.

The government hope to have a full roll-out of e-invoicing by the end of 2013”. Deutsche bank estimate the cost of processing an electronic invoice at 6 euro, which based on the government figure delivers a 90% saving. With savings of this magnitude, the government should be proactively engaging with e-invoicing in every government body now, not by the end of 2013.
